Introduction

Chemlog is a newly opened packaging and warehousing facility for plant protection products and other chemicals. It is fully completed and open for business from May 2021. It is a unique complex in Croatia and the western Balkans countries, built in full compliance with ADR standards (European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods By Road). The Chemlog complex is situated in the business zone of the city of Pleternica, 180 km (112 miles) southeast from Zagreb. This location provides the possibility for the optimized distribution across the region, as it is in the vicinity of some of the key markets in the Western Balkans - 300 km (186 miles) from Ljubljana, 235 km (146 miles) from Belgrade, and 242 km (150 miles) from Sarajevo. Only 118 km (73 miles) to the north is Pecs, the regional center of Southern Hungary. The site was built and furnished to meet the most exacting fire safety regulations and occupational safety and health standards. Elevated half a metre (1 ft 7 in) above ground, the entire facility is safe in case of flooding. In each space at the ground floor of the facility there are drains connected to special underground tanks. This network of drains and tanks was also designed for protection in any event of leakage of hazardous chemicals. If any accident involving leakage of chemical products should occur at any time of the day, all spilled chemicals will be contained in the underground tanks without causing any damage to the environment. The filling hall has the net workspace height of 4 metres and is equipped with the ventilation system compliant with all standards related to facilities which handle hazardous chemicals. We have three filling lines – one line for powder products and two lines for liquid products; of the latter pair, one filling line is for herbicides and the other for insecticides and fungicides. The warehouse has been divided into six separate units in order to ensure maximum efficiency of fire protection. To provide protection in the event of any leakage of chemicals, the floor of each part of the warehouse has been treated with special chemical resistant coating and fitted with drains connected to special underground tanks.
